The NBA regular season is finally over. Two big surprises for this year are the Miami Heat and Oklahoma Thunder both missing the playoffs. The playoffs get underway this Saturday and there is some intriguing matchups.
The Toronto Raptors (4 seed) will host the Washington Wizards (5 seed) in the first game on Saturday. The Raptors are -185 favorites to win the series while underdog bettors can take the Wizards at +160 to win the seven game series. In the opening game oddsmakers have installed Toronto has 4.5 favorites with a total of 193. The money line is Raptors -190 and Wizards +165.
The Chicago Bulls are the 3 seed in the East and they’ll host the 6th seeded Milwaukee Bucks. For the series the Bulls are heavily favored at -700 while Milwaukee can be had at +500. Oddsmakers are assuming the Bulls will win and setup a second round matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers led by Lebron James who is shooting for his 3rd championship and 5th straight NBA finals appearance. In game one the Bulls are -7.5 or -355 on the money line. The total is set at 185.5.
Lebron James returned home to Cleveland this offseason, leaving the Miami Heat with his goal of bringing a championship back to Ohio. Cleveland is the #2 seed and they’ll get to face Boston one of the surprise playoff teams. Cleveland is a huge series favorite at -3500. Boston can be had at +1700. Anything but a Cavs series win would be an upset in stunning fashion. The series opens in Cleveland on Sunday with the Cavs favored by 11 points or -800 on the money line. The total is sitting at 203.
The final series in the East features 1 vs 8. Atlanta was the second best team record wise in the NBA and best in the East. They are -1250 favorites in the series over the Brooklyn Nets who needed a win on the last game of the season to clinch a playoff spot. In Game one Atlanta is -10 or -600 on the money line with the total set at 201.5.
In the Western Conference there could be a lot of drama with the top 7 teams having a chance to advance to the finals with first time playoff New Orleans being quite the long shot.
Golden State was the best team in basketball. They are the number one overall seed and also have the likely winner of the MVP award Stephen Curry. They are only the 10th team in NBA history to win 67 games overall. The Warriors are -4000 to win the series while the Pelicans can be had for ++2000. In game one on Saturday the Warriors are -11.5, -970 with the total available at 203.5.
Houston claimed the second seed and they also have MVP candidate James Harden. The Rockets will host the other team from Texas when the Mavericks come to town. Oddsmakers installed the Rockets as -280 series favorites. Dallas is +240. In the opening game, Houston is -5.5. The money line is -245 and the total is 210.
The 3 vs 6 battle in the West features last years NBA champion as the 6th seed and they’ll visit the Clippers. For the series, the Spurs are road favorites at -165 while the Clippers are +145. In the opener, oddsmakers give a slight edge to the Clippers who are one point favorites with the total set at 205.
The last series in the West features two teams that have struggled down the stretch. Portland is #4 and is an underdog for the series at +165. The 5th seeded Memphis Grizzlies are -190 favorites to advance. Memphis is -4,5 for game one with the total set at 188.5.
All the NBA playoff action begins this weekend and it should be a good one.
