Pitchers and catchers will report to Spring Training later this month as we get ready for the 2012 MLB season. This offseason has seen some big free agent moves with big names switching uniforms starting with Albert Pujols who signed with the Los Angeles Angels and Prince Fielder who signed with the Detroit Tigers. As we discussed in an earlier blog post, both signings affected the odds on who will win the 2012 MLB World Series.

One positive thing about the big moves is it creates some extra interest in the baseball season and more prop bets at the sports books. Bookmaker.eu has posted several cool props to bet on for this MLB season.

With Fielder hitting in the middle of that sick Tigers lineup, Fielder could hit 40 homers for his new American League team. His RBI total is set at 110.5.

Fielder is a few years younger than Pujols but Albert has been head and shoulders the best hitter in baseball over the last several years. Some baseball insiders believe he already is in decline and the thought of the Angels giving him a 10 year deal raises eyebrows. A lot of comparisons between Pujols and Fielder will be made throughout the year. Bookmaker has odds on who will hit more homers in 2012 with their new club.

Home Runs have declined since the steroid era has started to end. In 2011, Matt Kemp led the National League in homers with 39 while Jose Bautista led the American League for the second straight year with 43.

The over/under for the most homers this year by any player in MLB is o41.5 -150. It should be worth noting that there hasn’t been a year since 1986 where a player from at least one of the leagues did not hit at least 42 home runs.
